On Wednesday, April 13th, 2011 at 8:10 am by Rob Griffiths, If none are reported, then we can enable it by default in a future bug fix update. Now that Witch 3.6.3 is out, we can ask all TotalFinder users to try this fix, and let us know if they experience any other issues with it. We tested as best we could, but we still weren’t confident that we’d tested everything possible, so we decided to ship with the setting disabled. So why did we make a bug fix a hidden preference, and disabled by default? Because of the way we had to code this particular workaround, we were concerned about possible other issues with TotalFinder windows. (That’s one long line just select it and copy, and it should paste fine.) You won’t see any response from Terminal (other than a new command prompt), but Witch is now set up to work properly with TotalFinder. This will fix when I will buy my license Thank you. Open Terminal (in Applications > Utilities), copy and paste the following text, then press Return:ĭefaults write ~/Library/Application\ Support/Witch/Settings "Work Around TotalFinder" -bool YES TF works well, but sometimes when I come back to my Mac, TF in not running anymore and Finder is there, so I need to start TF again manually.Disable Witch (uncheck Enable Witch) and quit the app (App Store version) or close System Preferences (independent version).I’ll explain why in a bit, but for now, here’s how to get Witch 3.6.3 working with TotalFinder: Unfortunately, due to the length of time between when we submitted the 3.6.3 update to the App Store and its approval, both Peter and I forgot that this fix is disabled by default, and that it must be enabled via a hidden preference. It uses addChildWindow Cocoa API1 for that. In more complex situation when TotalFinder is switched to 'dual mode' it adds two child windows on top of one Finder window. I’d rather not enable that feature if possible as with it enabled, you can no longer view/interact with the Dock as it’s always covered by a visible TF visor. With the release of Witch 3.6.3, one of the described fixes was:Ī problem causing TotalFinder’s windows to appear twice in Witch has been fixed. lwouis TotalFinder composes own windows on top of Finder's own window using the same mechanism as 'window sheets' internally work. Additionally, it seems as though I have to enable “Show on top of Dock” to get the functionality I was expecting just from a pinned visor. I seem to only get that functionality if I have multiple displays as the visor stays visible on the original display it was opened in, but then I can click and browse other windows on any other external display I have without losing visibility of the visor. Each tab has an embedded terminal which can be toggled with the F4 key. Single-pane, dual-pane (vertical or horizontal split), and quad-pane layouts. Unless I’m misunderstanding the way a pinned visor is supposed to work, I assumed that once you pinned it, its entire visibility would be enabled meaning that the visor remains open as well as floating on top. Polo is a modern, light-weight file manager for Linux with support for multiple panes and tabs support for archives, and much more. It does remain open, but clicking on another app’s windows raises that app above TF’s visor. I noticed that my TF visor will not remain as the topmost window when pinned.
